IN MEMORY

Brother Crewchief
Gary Phillips

Gary Phillips Born Feb. 4, 1947, in San Francisco, California. A San Mateo County resident for most of his 58 years.

This man, a person like no other. A proud man, so proud of so many things in his life. A father of sons who are standing tall with honor of being one of his. Daughters as well, proud to be called his. The best Pappy of his grandchildren who are standing looking up to him. Son to a proud father of his first born, son to his mother's only son, brother to his sisters only brother. Brother to one who needed that brother, uncle to some who looked at him as their backbone.

Friend of so, so many people. Co-worker of co-workers who were more than co-workers, but just like family. A brother to his Vietnam brothers from there to here and back and has their backs. Unless you were there you wouldn't understand, just know it's a Brotherhood we should all so be so honored to have been a part of one like no other. A brother to a friend who needed a brother. A man who would give you the shirt off his back, so you could be warm if you had none.

A teacher of many things, such as baseball, how to ride a bike, drive a car, change a tire and show you where you put the water and oil. A coach to many a Little Leaguer, an umpire to a coach, a teacher of respect, of pride, of give it your all.

A father to all who needed him when they couldn't find theirs, a friend to whomever needed one, a man who would stop at a stop sign and roll his window down and hand money to a stranger. A neighbor who, if he couldn't help you, he would find someone to do the job and get it done. A man who would drive a foot or a thousand miles if that's what it took. A man who could make you laugh with his sense of humor, or give ya a good jumping lesson. A man who showed you that his family and friends were a wonderful and sometimes a pain in his life.

A man and decorated Vietnam veteran. A man proud to have served his country and proud to have served the way he and his brothers believed was the way it had to be done. A man proud of his Red, White and Blue, a man who flies his country's flag 24-7, 365. A man who could take an order and fulfill it to the best of his ability.

A man who loved his bikes, his Harleys, his girls. A man who could put a shine on a Loach or a Harley that you could see yourself in from head to toe. Slick, smooth and ever so shiny like no other.

A man who gave and gave and gave to others however he could, a man who shared what he had with whomever needed it. A man who could be as hard as a rock when needed, a man with a voice that you didn't have to say I couldn't hear ya, could ya say that again. A man gentle as a soft teddy bear with a heart bigger than you could ever imagine. A man who would take in a stray animal and bring it home. A man you could be so proud of to say I know that man. A man who had to make sure his Little Buddy had a jacket to keep her warm and safe on the back of his ride.

A man who has left footsteps no one will ever fill. A man who let you walk beside him or would walk beside you. This man is a man I hope you had a walk with at least once in your life along his path of life as it was an honor to walk with him. This man, my soul mate, my rock, my love of all loves, my one to be there when the tough got going, my other half, the one in my heart with one of the biggest pieces I could ever give, this man is the one who showed and gave so very much to me from inside his heart and mind, more than I ever could think I would have been lucky enough to be given. This man is the one, irreplaceable, made like no other, a man who has crossed over and will be waiting and holding a place for us, and believe me when I say this man is with some of the people he loved to share his life with and will be waiting to invite the rest of us to where they are when it is time. This man is the man who has taken a part of me that was his to take and his alone.

This man is the man I will never get used to being without, this is a man who has touched and will continue to touch people of all kinds for as long as his legacy remains. This man is my man! My hero, my best friend, Big Pal, my Guy. On that tragic day, God dealt Pappy a Seven-Deuce off suit. God made his move and pushed it all in; I could just hear Pappy say, "Time to cut the cake," as he looked our God in the eye and said, " I call."

Loving husband of 40 years to Delores Phillips, father of Russell "Buzz" Phillips of Redding, Calif., Gary A. Phillips Jr. of Redwood City, Calif., Shawn A. Phillips of Redwood City, Jason Jones of Fremont, Calif., and the late Albert "Albie" Phillips. Brother of Sandra Duncan of San Mateo, Calif., Nancy Coevas of Auburn, Calif., and Royce Spomer of Santa Rosa, Calif., the late Paul "Rusty" Jones, and the late Sam "Timmy" Jones. Grandfather of Madison, CJ, Angel, Anthony and one on the way. We miss you already Pappy and we love you very much!
